Auspicious Muhurat for Vivah Sanskar
The selection of an
auspicious time for marriage is dependent on several astronomical
factors. The two most important factors are Jupiter and Venus and the
time of Harishayana. Marriages are forbidden when Jupiter and Venus are
combust and are permissible up till 3 days before and 3 days after
combustion. Similarly, marriages can’t be performed during the period of
Harishayana i e from 11th of Ashada Shukla to 11th of Kartik Shukla
Paksha.
Marriages also can’t be solemnized in Khar Maas when the
Sun is in Sagittarius and Pisces. On the other hand, when the Sun is in
Cancer, Leo and Virgo's marriages are performed.
Nakshatra for Marriage
All fixed Nakshatras Uttar phaguni, Uttar Ashada, Uttar Bhadrapada, Rohini,Mrigsira, Revati, Anuradha, Moola, Swati, Magha, and Hasta are good.
Tithis
2,3,5,7,10,11 and 13 are the best. These are Lunar tithis.
Yoga
Benefic Yoga should be chosen, if benefic Yoga is not available, then it’s considered a bad period and should be avoided.
Karana
Fixed Karanas are Shakuni, Chatushpad, Nag, and Kintughna. They should be avoided as they are malefic. Bhadra and Vishti Karana should also be avoided as they are malefic.
Lagna
Ascendant or Lagna
occupies an important and unique position in Marriage Muhurat. Lagna
Shudhi eliminates several blemishes which might have crept in spite of
many precautions.
Muhurat Lagna should
be strong and free from malefic influence. With regards to the
placement of planets, there are separate positions for benefics and
malefics.
Lagna Lord of
Marriage Muhurata should not be placed in the sixth or eighth house.
Planets should be placed in such houses where they get maximum Vishwa
Bal.
Navamsa
The strength of
marriage Lagna and Navamsa is considered auspicious for the bridegroom
and strength of the seventh house and its Navamsa is benefic for the
bride.
Astrology says that
except the Vargottam Navamsa the last Navamsa of any sign should be
avoided. When Moon is in Capricorn then moveable Ascendant and Moon
Navamsa should be rejected. Navamsa of Gemini, Virgo, Libra, and
Sagittarius are auspicious for any sign.
Lagana and Navamsa
signs are identical with eighth or twelfth place from natal Moon and
should be discarded. This is especially necessary where Natal ascendant Lord and Moon sign Lord are in their eighth house.
Lords are inimical
to each other. This position may be seen in those natives horoscope whose
Ascendant sign or Moon sign fall in an even sign. Marriage Lagnas and Navamsas of eighth place or sign from birth Ascendant or birth Rashi in such cases be discarded
Purification of Tri-bala
The purification of
Tri-bala is important for the Muhurat of marriage. In Tri-bala
purification, the strength of individual transitions of Sun, Moon, and
Jupiter are determined from the Kundlis of the bride and groom. Sun and
Moon’s transitory strength is considered for the groom and Moon and
Jupiter’s transitory strength is assessed for the bride.
According to Vedic
astrology Sun on the third, sixth, tenth or eleventh house from the Moon
sign is very auspicious for marriage. Remaining first, second, fifth,
seventh, and ninth houses become auspicious after their purification but
fourth, eighth, and twelfth houses should be strictly avoided.
Similarly, the
transition of Moon is auspicious on the first, third, sixth, seventh,
tenth and eleventh houses from the Moon sign of the couple. The second,
fifth, and ninth houses are purified after worshipping but the fourth,
eighth, and twelfth houses are malefic in marriage Muhurat.
Like Sun and Moon
Jupiter also has a certain pattern. Jupiter transiting on the second,
fifth, seventh, ninth, and eleventh houses in the Kundali of the bride
and groom creates an excellent Muhurat for their marriage. The planet
becomes auspicious after the purification of its transition on the
first, third, sixth, and eleventh houses and it gives negative results
on its transition on fourth, eighth and twelfth houses of the couple’s
Kundali.
Now from the above
discussion, it is evident that if these planets transit on the fourth,
eighth and 12 houses from the couple’s Moon sign then they are
considered as inauspicious for the marriage Muhurat.
The houses shed
their negativity and become benefic if Sun, Moon, and Jupiter are placed
in their own signs or exalted signs. Similarly, combust or debilitated
planets become inauspicious though they are auspiciously placed. This
Muhurat should be immediately avoided for marriage.
Godhuli Ascendant
In marriage Muhurat
the Godhuli Ascendant is used in an emergency. A Godhuli Ascendant is
excellent if the marriage Muhurat has an inauspicious combination of
Ascendant, Navamsha, lunar day, weekday, nakshatra, etc.
The duration of the
Godhuli Ascendant is between 12 minutes after and before the sunset. In
olden times when cattle used to come back during sunset after grazing
throughout the day, the atmosphere used to get smoky by the dust of
their footsteps. The term Godhuli is coined from this, and the time is
called the Godhuli Ascendant.
But there are some
Doshas like Kulika Dosha, Krantisamya, afflicted Nakshatra and Saturday
Dosha which are active in the Godhuli ascendant as well. Hence the
Doshas due to the placement of Moon on the first, sixth or eighth house
and Mars on the first, seventh or eighth house remain as they are.
That’s why Godhuli ascendant should only be chosen for marriage when
there is no other substitute.
Other Important Points
- Certain malefic Tithis like Kshaya Tithi, Vridhi Tithi and Nakshatra, Lagna and Tithi Gandanta should be avoided.
- The day of Solar Ingress or Sankranti should be avoided
- The Lord of Marriage Muhurat Lagna should not be combust or Navamsa Lord should also not be combust.
- Bhadra should be discarded.
- Malefic Ardha- Yama of the day should be avoided.
- The Ascendent and marriage Muhurat Lord should not be under Papkartari Yoga. In other words, these two houses should not be under the malefic influence. This causes a serious blemish if the second house has a retrograde planet and twelfth house has a direct motion planet.
- Jupiter and Venus must not be Combust. This is mandatory for determining an auspicious marriage Muhurat
- Dinamana or 1/8th portion of the day, the 8th part is malefic and should not be considered for marriage Muhurata.
