Vatsdwadasi Festival is celebrated on twelfth of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapad maasa. The female members of a family worship cow and calf on this festival. After worship, mothers give dry coconut to their children to consume. This festival is mainly associated with mothers for the happiness of their children.
Ganesh Chaturthi/Siddhi Vinayak Vrat: 11th September
Ganesh Chaturthi is
celebrated on fourth of Shukla paksha of Bhadrapad maasa. This year the
festival will be celebrated on 11th September, 2010. Auspicious work of
fasting and worshiping of lord Ganesha is done on this day. People offer
Laddus(sweets) to the lord Ganesha after fasting for the entire day.
The temples of lord Ganesha also witness the celebration of this
festival.
People who keep fast on Ganesh Chaturthi should not look at Moon on this day, otherwise it may be inauspicious.
Devjhulni Ekadashi: 18th September, 2010
Devjhulni Ekadashi
is also known as Padma Ekadashi. This festival is celebrated on eleventh
Tithi of Shukla paksha, in Uttarashadha nakshtra in the month of
Bhadrapad. Devjhulni Ekadashi is the occasion of worshiping and fasting
for lord Vishnu.
On this day, an idol of lord Vishnu is submerged
in a river. A procession is held in which people follow the idol to
submerge it in the water. All the people participating in the occasion
keep fast on this day.
Anant Chaturdashi: 22nd September, 2010
The next festival in
the series of festivals falling in the month of Bhadrapad is famous as
Anant Chaturdashi. This year this festival will be celebrated on 22nd
September, 2010, on fourteenth of Shukla paksha in Purva Bhadrapad
nakshtra. People eat the food only once on this festival.
This
festival is dedicated to the unending form of lord Vishnu. We should
chant following mantra on this day to get beneficial results:
